Ground Source Heat Pump Association

GSHPA encourages the growth and development of ground source energy in the United Kingdom by:

The Association provides information on GSHPs via this website, its webinars and telephone helplines and makes presentations to promote the ground source industry to key audiences. It co-ordinates closely with government and other trade associations to work for high quality installations and the success of the ground source industry.

The clear path to Net Zero

UK Carbon Emissions

For the UK to achieve Net Zero carbon emissions by 2050 we will need to embrace the Electrification of Heat and the Electrification of Transport.

Over 37% of UK carbon emissions are currently caused by heating in buildings, including over 20% for space heating, space cooling and heating water.

This is not necessary, because burning fuel is not the only way to heat buildings.

The alternative is to use heat pumps which use heat transfer instead of combustion.

Heat pumps issue no emissions of any kind on site. They do use electricity to transfer heat from one place to another and concentrate the heat up to a useable temperature. The electricity used may have been generated from combustion – although this route is now being rapidly curtailed. If the heat pump uses green electricity then heating with absolute zero carbon emissions is available now in 2021.
