30 GW of Heating from public Parks

What is "Possible"?

Possible is a charity based in Hackney, North London, that inspires climate action.

Possible proposes that the heat absorbed by the ground in public parks in summer should be transferred to buildings in winter using ground source heat pumps.

Possible calculates that the ground beneath parks, playing fields and public green spaces could be used to supply 30 GW of heat to keep our buildings warm and save over 8 million tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

Possible's webpage on powering parks includes a video explaining ground source energy. It also explains the rationale and includes a link to its new report on the art of the possible.

The GSHPA welcomes these constructive suggestions.

GSHPA members would be pleased to work with local authorities to realise these plans for making decarbonising heating in the UK possible.
